1998. A big birthday for
Edna! Somewhere she'd always wanted to go and she was not disappointed.
Had a Wiener Schnitzel, went for a spin on the Giant (65m. high) Ferris
Wheel at the Prater (as in The Third Man), saw a Strauss Concert, went
to the Spanish Riding School and saw all the sights. The week before
we went Vienna was in the grip of a heat wave so took the shorts etc.
when we got there it was wet and cold! We now both have umbrellas and
Mozart sweat shirts bought there. Luckily on Edna's birthday it was
sunny (the sun shines on the righteous) and that was the day we went
to the Prater. Birthday dinner was at the Griechenbeisl
(Vienna's oldest inn - allegedly). According to the DK Eyewitness Guide
(recommended) the Viennese Cooking there is "adequate but overpriced"
but we loved it for the atmosphere. Vienna is a Must Go. |
