On our first walk past the Cathedral we thought "Nice". No more than that. I decided to give it a more thorough look when I went back into Town in the afternoon. By the standards of the major Cities of Europe it is quite modest but it's modesty and simplicity (in my opinion) adds to it's charm. The photo below is taken from a Postcard, you wouldn't be able to take it today!

Outside is a statue called "Der Geistkämpfer" (Fighting spirit).

This, apparently, was a problem to the Nazis and they had it cut up in the 30s as being "degenerate art". It was ordered to be melted down but, luckily, it wasn't! Inside is a very moving cross made of three nails from Coventry Cathedral. After the destruction of Coventry Cathedral in WW2 the Coventry clergy decided they would send the cross, after the war, to a German City as a sign of reconciliation. Several were sent to German Cities but the first was sent to Kiel, which was largely destroyed by Allied bombing.
